Founded in 1949, Shinshu University is a national university in Japan consisting of 8 undergraduate faculties and 5 graduate schools spread across 5 campuses over Nagano prefecture, which is well known for its rich natural resources and stunning landscapes.
The key educational principle at Shinshu University is nurturing individuals who can solve world issues to serve as future leaders in society. Our environmental education inspires students to develop an "Environmental Mind" by the rich natural surroundings of Nagano. Students are honed through "Fieldwork" to understand the integral relationships between academia and local communities.
Since the time of the once-flourishing silk industry, the fiber engineering was key industries in Nagano. Nowadays, the Faculty of Textile Science and Technology is the only textile-related faculty in Japan, in which the unique and world-class research is conducted in the fields of materials science, robotics, applied biology, and Kansei engineering.

In collaboration with industries, an employment promotion program and internship at Japanese company are offered, including the business language course, for those who want to get a job at Japanese company. The courses related to Japanese language and culture are also offered for students who wish to improve their language skills or students who want to learn about Japanese society and traditional martial arts and culture.
The university specific scholarship "Forest of Knowledge" sponsored by local residents and companies supports the travel and living expenses of international students who meet certain conditions.
The university actively sends our students abroad as well as accepts international students from about 30 countries around the world, which builds a steady friendship across the borders.
